WESTERN AUSTRALIA - Caversham Wildlife Park
Caversham Wildlife Park is situated within Whiteman Park, just 15km from the city centre of Perth. As such, it is close to many other famous tourist attractions and convenient amenities. However, Caversham Wildlife Park offers such a diverse range of animals as well as the unique opportunity to interact with such creatures, that visitors are likely to spend the entire day within its borders.
Established as a small private park in 1982, Caversham has grown exponentially over the decades. Today, it is home to over 2000 animals and 200 different species. These include birds, reptiles, mammals and so on, which live in their natural environments within the park. Visitors from all over the world come to the park each year to view these animals in their walk-through environment. Caversham
Cassowary Casuarius - flightless Australian bird breeds its own Tasmanian Devils, Wombats, Koalas, Grass Owls and Cassowaries. Considering that it is a privately-owned park and a non-profit organisation, this is no mean feat.
Visitors are encouraged to interact with the animals and professional guides add value to the tours by providing as much information as possible on these fascinating residents. This leaves visitors with a lasting sense of enrichment and the knowledge that they enjoyed an interaction far more significant and intimate than simply viewing the animal in a cage. Interactive experiences include:
Meet the Koalas – visitors are invited to stand alongside the sleepy koalas in their natural environment, even giving them a coveted scratch on the back while their picture is being taken.
Feed the Kangaroos – the Kangaroos are a particularly friendly bunch and enjoy being fed by visitors and having their pictures taken!
Meet the Wombat and Friends Show – this show allows visitors to interact with the delightful Wombat, Kangaroo joeys, pythons, parrots, owls and Dingoes. These animals promise lasting memories for the entire family.
Camel Rides – view the park and surrounds from the elevated position of a camel back as these magnificent creatures transport guests through the bush.
Molly’s Farm – this interactive farm is great for children (and the young-at-heart), giving them the opportunity to walk around, pet and feed a variety of farm creatures. These include pigs, cows, rabbits, goats, donkeys, deer, Llamas, horses and even a friendly Buffalo!
The Farm Show – watch and participate in milking a cow, shearing a sheep, learning to crack a whip, bottle-feeding a lamb and much more. This show provides an interesting glimpse into the skills and activities necessary in order to run a farm successfully.
Caversham Wildlife Park is focussed on educating the public and exposing them to the lives, habits and requirements for sustaining a wide variety of animals, many of them unique to Australia. This is an experience not easily rivalled, and certainly one that should be explored by visitors from other parts of the globe.
