TASMANIA - The Devils @ Cradle Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary

Tasmania is an island off the mainland of Australia, famous for its sometimes-vicious resident, the Tasmanian Devil. The Devils @ Cradle Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary protects this unique species as well as the Eastern Quoll and Spotted-tail Quoll, other carnivorous marsupials. These little creatures provide fascinating insight into the natural world of Australia and the animals that earliest explorers encountered upon arrival.

Visitors to the sanctuary are encouraged to peruse the Visitors’ Centre, which provides a wealth of information on Tasmanian Devils, their lives, habitats, diets and breeding habits. Then, embark on a personalised guided tour through the sanctuary, where visitors are able to observe these animals in their natural habitat. Tours are ideal for any age group or number of people. They educate and inform, aiding

in the understanding of Tasmanian Devils and Quolls and contributing towards their long-term preservation. Ensuring their survival is of utmost importance to the Devils @ Cradle team.

The Quoll is a nocturnal animal, native to Australia and Papua New Guinea. They nurture their young in a pouch that develops only during their breeding season. They are fairly shy creatures, and belong to the same tribe as Tasmanian Devils.

The sanctuary is situated within the Cradle Mountain Range and on the edge of the Cradle Mountain National Park World Heritage area. These surrounds guarantee breath-taking sights and awesome diversity. Sharp rock faces are placed alongside temperate rainforests and grass moorlands to create a haven for many plant-, animal- and bird species. Popular animals include the Wallaby, Wombat and Possum.

Visitors to this centre will be interested to learn of the Captive Breeding Program as it plays a major role in ensuring genetic viability and implementing sustainable breeding initiatives.

The Devils @ Cradle Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary offers a deep well of fascinating facts and important information regarding these elusive but irresistible animals. Indeed, locals and visitors alike do well to pay the centre a visit and discover some of the wonders of Australian wildlife.
